Math under blankets
These rocks are seriously the most played with toy the kids have.  I literally used acrylic painted on river rocks.

This was our first co-op day for this year, and I must say it went splendidly. We use blue hibiscus tea as a pH indicator for lemonade.  The kids had fun changing the lemonade and then enjoying their taste snack!

We have finally gotten our therapy schedule worked out, so now, I am trying to use all of our time.  Or at least be intentional when we aren't using it.   During the PS's Speech therapy time, the 2nd and I made marble mazes.  At first, I thought it was a stretch to call these mazes school, but we were able to use different size marbles to discuss weight, inertia, and control.

Nothing says homechool more than having a kitten on your lap while working on hundreds, tens, and ones.  We began our new second grade curriculum this week (We use Singapore: Dimension Math).

We also did our Magic Tree House reading.  The 2nd wondered out loud, "What is the difference between a Pteranodon and a Pterodactyl?" I am looking for a classification project to work on for this.

As mentioned yesterday, we had a late night on Wednesday, so we decided to forgo math and grammar today and work on fine motor skills, reading, sorting, and less focused activities.  I like to steer into the swerve, and today, there was no need to make everyone miserable on top of tired.

August 22, 2018

Today seems to be the break in the ice.  We had a good school day.

Thank any and all gods that had a hand in that.

We began the day with some outside time where the 2nd found all sorts of worms and snails.  It was a fantastic way to begin- who doesn't love recess first?

It certainly made all our other lessons go more smoothly.  We began writing letters to friends today.

Both kiddos also have occupational therapy, so while the PS was in her session, the 2nd and I play Legendary.  I have been incorporating more planned individual time with each kiddo lately, both because they like it and because I get so caught up in everything that needs to be done that I forget my kids are little individuals with BIG individual personalities.
To finish off our school day, we made a catapult.  Reading our Magic Tree House books, we learned about armories, and decided to build something you might find in there.  A definite quick favorite.
And this.  We are total rule breakers.  Our neighborhood was having a special moment tonight when we were on our way home, so we decided that 9:00 was a great time for ice cream instead of bed.

August 20 and 21, 2018

Yep.  This crumpled up, not-even-started worksheet on proper nouns is the ultimate description of our first day back to the grind.

Of course, we did read-  A lovely friend gave us her collection of Magic Tree House books, and we have been absolutely devouring them.  We also worked on math for a bit with much of the same temperament as the grammar sheet. Ah, yes.  Routines.  Now I remember why we do not break routines.

Happy Schooling- but if it's not, power through and know that next week will likely be easier.

Day two was a complete repeat.

Banana Bread

2nd was learning how to make banana bread and then a day later he was teaching his sister how to make banana bread.
